20.02.2012 – 21.65km / 1:52:59 Hong Kong Trail 1st half backwards
First fast training for some time. My friend Marcel and I decided to start at Wong Nai Chung gap and run the first half of the Hong Kong Trail backwards....... with me starting exactly 30min after him and trying to catch him up. Marcel recently ran a 3h20min marathon and is an experienced trailrunner, so I realised this game of ‘catch’ would not be easy. As a result this was not a peaceful run focussed on running form, breathing and aerobic engines. Instead, I built up a wave of brutal energy inside myself, allowed it to consume my consciousness and my being..... and ran. This felt exhilarating beyond belief, I love running trails this way - without a care in the world, oblivious to all else. Ultimately I managed to complete the run in 1h52min59sec, which was not fast enough as Marcel managed 2h5min50sec and was waiting for me at the finish with a big smile! So Marcel's ‘trailrunning being caught virginity’ (TBCV for short) is still in tact. What a ridiculously fun run though :)
