WILD_RUN #04: HAPPY HAM TIN |
DATE: 05.05.2013 |
I led this run for the HK Trailrunners Meetup Group. Starting at Pak Tam Chung we followed a hidden, overgrown path to the top of Tai Cham Koi. Then a great undulating, technical path until eventually intersecting with the MacLehose Trail and visiting Sai Wan beach and Ham Tin beach for rest and snacks before running in the dusk and dark to Pak Tam Au. Lush. |
WILD_RUN #03: GORGEOUS GRASSY HILL |
DATE: 01.05.2013 |

NEEDLE HILL SUNSET |
DATE: 23.04.2013 |
Needle Hill offers a great view of Shing Mun Reservoir, Tai Mo Shan, Sha Tin and also Tsuen Wan. I love climbing this hill at sunset. It offers calm views and also a great challenge as a fun, fast climb. Climbing fast occasionally stopping out of breath to take photos. A great evening, philosophising silently at the top as sunset fadegalleryd to darkness. Gorgeous. |

POETRY_RUN #01: JARDINE'S LOOKOUT |
DATE: 18.04.2013 |
I led this run for the HK Trailrunners Meetup Group. This run was something a little bit different. I think nature and trailrunning inspire creativity in all of us. So we did a misty run over Jardine's Lookout and Mount Butler and then afterwards, shared some snacks and also read some poetry. It was a great night, and the misty weather also added to the theme. |
WILD_RUN #01: BEAUTIFUL BUFFALO HILL |
DATE: 14.04.2013 |
I led this run for the HK Trailrunners Meetup Group. I decided to start leading a series of rugged and technical runs. One of the reasons I love trailrunning is to find and share hidden, unusual paths. Unsignposted, overgrown. Rugged. Steep descents. Quiet woodlands. Bamboo groves. Climbing hills at sunset. Calm. Exploring the countryside. Wild_Run was born. |

The day of the Trans Lantau race. I started at Mui Wo on the beach watching some of the 50km runners finish and then headed onto the South Lantau Country Trail so that I could cheer on some of the runners who were coming in my direction at sunset. This trail has gorgeous views over the Lantau coast and as the sun slowly said goodnight all felt calm and idyllic. |
LAZY LAMMA EXPLORATION |
DATE: 17.02.2013 |
A fun little exploration of Lamma's paths. Starting off with some snacks (always a good idea) we took some off road paths before heading through a quarry on an idyllic, calm day. After this there came a hidden path to a gorgeous beach which has no name on Countryside Series maps and so must be called 'The Beach With No Name'. |
SAI KUNG COUNTRY PARK BEACHES |
DATE: 17.01.2013 |
A fun day exploring overgrown paths and river beds around Lo Tei Tun in Sai Kung Country Park. BREEZY BUFFALO HILL |
DATE: 23.11.2012 |
A windy, breezy night with an almost full moon enticed me up to Buffalo Hill. Armed with a camera and tripod I tried to get some fun pictures of the soft ethereal clouds floating across the sky with the moon watching us all carefully. It was also fun to frame static tree trunks and then capture the weaving and waving leaves. A fun night on the dark trails. |

WEST BUFFALO HILL SUB-25 |
DATE: 12.04.2012 |
Well, finally..... Running from Fa Sam Hang village to the top of West Buffalo Hill in under 25 minutes represents quite a challenge. This is a steep, technical climb. Starting on an old village path and then becoming steeper on rough mud trails. A few undulations precede a final, steep, brutal climb. This was the first time i went sub-25min. Preserved forever on Strava. |

LUK WU COUNTRY TRAIL & HAM TIN WAN |
DATE: 08.02.2012 |
Aerobic training is important for trailrunning. You run within yourself at an aerobic level, never building up lactic acid and increase the power in your engine. Marcel and I ran aerobically on the Luk Wu Country Trail. We passed through Sai Wan and headed over to Ham Tin Wan for food and photo taking and relaxation. After this we walked in the dark back to Pak Tam Au. |
CNY FIREWORKS ON JARDINE'S LOOKOUT |
DATE: 24.01.2012 |
Jardine's Lookout affords a panoramic view of the harbour. This is an impressive spectacle on Chinese New Year fireworks night. The walk up to Jardine's Lookout was misty and calm. The weather had put everyone else off and it was empty and gorgeous at the top. A few minutes before the fireworks the clouds parted, giving an amazing, unforgettable view on a great night. |

ABERDEEN TO PEAK ON HK TRAIL |
DATE: 25.02.2009 |
Starting from Aberdeen I followed the Hong Kong Trail backwards to the Peak. It really is amazing that at the heart of a mega city is this lush green lung. Five minutes after leaving a bustling Aberdeen I found myself on empty paths with no other human beings in sight. This half of the HK Trail is generally wooded and green with mud trails punctuated by occasional climbs. |
