MUI TSZ LAM RAM PATH |
DATE: 06.05.2021 |
Starting from Fa Sam Hang up to Turret pass and then the delightful, slippery descent to Mui Tsz Lam. From here a little scrambling and onwards dear friend, to the Ram Path; a mixture of old village path and overgrown trails. From Mau Ping the sustained, gentle climb up to Buffalo Pass and then up and over Buffalo for sunset which is always necessary. |
BAMBOO SEA & ROCKS |
DATE: 29.03.2021 |
Taking the village path down to Tai No and then going for a swim in the bamboo sea. My second favourite type of swimming after actual swimming. And then the climb of Buffalo Hill and pagoda ridge descent. And you know it. |
KOWLOON PEAK & TUNG YEUNG SHAN |
DATE: 19.03.2021 |
The Kowloon Peak and Tung Yeung Shan double whammy. A couple of nice climbs to relieve the boredom of all those flat sections. Stark contrasts on the photos and simply gorgeous views. |
FIRE ON BUFFALO RIDGE |
DATE: 26.01.2021 |
Hill fires are obnoxious. And destructive. This fire was working its way up to the ridge leading to Buffalo Hill. As far as I can tell, it started quite close to Turret Pass. Thankfully, the fire department was on hand to stem the flames. As well as the natural fire break of a path, and also the ridge. Fires don't burn downhill very often. |
SHEK NGA SHAN MYSTERIES |
DATE: 27.12.2020 |
I climbed Shek Nga Shan and then took one of the more overgrown routes down to Mui Tsz Lam old village path. Some really interesting and mature forest on the way, as well as a bit of pushing through undergrowth which I am also always up for. Some of the sections of old foest looked neolithic. Great atmosphere. |
MISTY KOWLOON PEAK |
DATE: 20.11.2020 |
Kowloon Peak via Heavenly Ridge. It was all glorious sunshine until the top at which point it became a bit more cloudy. Some gorgeous mushy colours on the way back. Just run. Enjoy the view. Then run again. |
BAMBOO SEA PATH |
DATE: 07.11.2020 |
Do you know how it feels to try and push yourself through bamboo so thick and bushy you can barely move your legs? I do. It feels amazing. I took the old village path down to Tai No and then hit the Bamboo Sea Path. Trailrunning is about running. But it is also about pushing your way through overgrown trails. Never forget that Buddy. |
KOWLOON PEAK & WILDLIFE |
DATE: 22.06.2020 |
A trailrun in Hong Kong is like a tour through a nature park. Open your eyes and look around and there is inevitably something scurrying around - normally to try and get away from YOU! Stopping to watch other things exist during a trailrun is one of life's great pleasures. And that is a fact. |
TURRET HILL ROUND TRIP |
DATE: 20.06.2020 |
I headed from Fa Sam Hang to Turret Pass before the overgrown climb to Turret Hill. From here I enjoyed the steep, technical descent to Chevalier Gardens. After this came the run up the road to Mui Tsz Lam village, a gradual incline all the way. Good to get some running practice. Passing Mui Tsz Lam I took the village path back to Fa Sam Hang. |
BUFFALO HILL VIA PAGODA RIDGE |
DATE: 17.06.2020 |
Starting from Fa Sam Hang in the late afternoon heat, I climbed the stairs to Fa Sam Hang pagoda. After this the path became a narrow, overgrown mud path that on occasion climbed steeply. This led to the undulating ridge that ultimately finishes at Buffalo Hill. I then climbed West Buffalo Hill in the glorious late afternoon sunshine, basking in the sun on the descent. |
SHEK NGA SHAN |
DATE: 01.05.2020 |
I followed MacLehose Trail stage 4 to Buffalo Pass. From here I took the mysterious, overgrown (and quite slippery) Mui Tsz Lam old village path to Mui Tsz Lam. I now began the very steep and occasionally quite technical climb of Shek Nga Shan, ending up at the peak at around sunset and basking in the glorious views of the surrounding areas. |
LAU SHU TIAN |
DATE: 19.04.2020 |
Taking a diversion from a main path, I ended up following a ricky, technical, slippery path that twisted and turned and was hard to find and which ultimately ended at Lau Shu Tian abandoned village. With the soft overgrown grass of the village fields welcoming me. I then headed to the enchanted stream. A bit more exploring before home. |
ENCHANTED STREAM |
DATE: 13.04.2020 |
This started with the climb to the Ngau Au Shan ridge. The path is initially hard to find and remains slightly ambiguous and then becomes totally overgrown. Obviously, that means it is a total delight. Just before the final climb I took a slippery, very steep descent down to the enchanted stream. Then enjoyed the overgrown paths, sun and solitude before heading home. |
BUFFALO HILL RIDGE |
DATE: 29.02.2020 |
Passing through Fa Sam Hang I followed unmarked, overgrown trails to Turret Hill before descending to Turret Pass. I then followed the steep climb up to the ridge heading towards Buffalo Hill. This is always a pleasure; technical, steep, undulating. I then climbed to West Buffalo Hill and followed the steep descent to Shek Nga Pui on a rocky, muddy path. |
BUFFALO PASS TO TAI NO |
DATE: 20.02.2020 |
First the run to Turret Pass and the teh steep climb up to the ridge leading to Buffalo Hill. After the rough, eastern descent I ran briefly on Mac 4 before turning off onto an initially steep path that evened out and became more and more overgrown until it was a bamboo grove that you literally had to jump though hopefully. Tai No old village path was luxury after that. |
TAI CHAM KOI & HAM TIN |
DATE: 08.01.2020 |
Gentle trails initially then an overgrown climb to Tai Cham Koi. There followed an overgrown descent past Tin Mei Shan that became really, really overgrown. And an equally overgrown climb to Lo Tei Tun. Not really a path, more just pushing relentlessly through undergrowth. Then champagne running to Ham Tin for swim and food then beer & ferry from Chek Keng. |
POK TO YAN, LIN FA SHAN & YI TUNG SHAN |
DATE: 09.12.2019 |
From Tung Chung an overgrown path to Pok To Yan. It started overgrown and became steeper and steeper. Definitely a bit technical. Then I climbed Lin Fa Shan for gorgeous views before crossing the Lantau Trail for about one second and taking the deliciously grassy climb to Yi Tung Shan. There followed a steep, slippery descent and beer & swim at Pui O. Perfect. |
